Hello! I am Soumya, welcome to my little place on the internet. |˶˙ᵕ˙ )ノ゙

For the past 10 years I have worked across multiple businesses and helped them use technology to solve core business problems. I started with a humble frontend development background and over the years worked across a wide range of domains, mostly as an individual contributor and quite recently as a lead.

In my latest stint I joined Goldcast as an early founding engineer and helped scale it all the way through to an acquisition by Cvent.

My stint at Goldcast is spread across two halves. In the first half, I worked across a wide surface area: chat, text/video Q&A and other interactive systems, sockets, video transcoding pipelines, video streaming application and infrastructure. In the latter half I moved into SRE to tackle problems around scaling, core reliability, cloud cost efficiency, GRC, and security.

Eventually I transitioned to be the manager of SRE domain at Goldcast, taking on responsibilities like building the team, setting development policies, and guiding teams on secure and scalable architecture. I remained hands-on throughout. IaC adoption, technology migrations, DR planning, SOC 2 and ISO audits, database security, acquisition due diligence, and observability improvements are some areas that I contributed to.

After the acquisition I helped the wider team get up to speed on Goldcast's infrastructure and practices. By this time I had a reliable team at Goldcast and around Cvent to rely on and pass the pager to. After nearly six years of daily firefighting and ownership, I decided it was time to step back, and to give time to learn a few things the high-paced startup environment never left room for, and to bring that experience directly to teams who need it. This page is where I'll share how I think about the startup journey, the experiences I gathered along the way, and what I'm learning now.

Open to work

Open to interesting engineering problems — full-time or fractional. I also take on selective FinOps consulting engagements around cost & rate optimization and FinOps implementation (without trading away reliability). If any of this resonates, say hi.
